Snow Day
“Snow Day” - 1/12/26

These are things most of us never imagined
Our hearts and minds would see in nearly real time
Reminding us how fragile life is how agile hate is
How love is not all you need necessarily when
Systems fail violence flails ugly brutal bristling
Shocking no more predictably insecure

It never seems to end the shootings the snatching
The temptation to give up give into darkness 24/7
It’s all we seem to see we can’t look away nor should we
Too many victims to count now in our own country
Women, children, men - innocents unearthed from
Beneath icey resentment lament lament lament

Then foment some more it’s the only way to ever
Be sure you know your rights be sure you’re prepared
Be sure of what’s impossible to predict by knowing
No matter what your humanity’s intact it’s sick
What we’re seeing what happened to Renee Good
It’s sick when children see their mothers screaming their

Teachers taken for no reason their reasoning relegated
To the boneyard of denial is the most powerful form
Of poison rats are the first to be tested but murder
Won’t get you arrested every day infants are still born
Lovers are still married beauty abounds the sunset’s watercoloring
Newness over this beleaguered nation helpers arrive

On the scene filming truth risking capsizing on the
Choppiest waters rafts barely afloat emote emote emote
But think clearly love dearly don’t lose your cool
Cool is to empathize cruelty’s so 2025 let’s cancel
Everything until we can all agree each one of us is
Suffering because we are all one truth-scream fleeing the scene of

The crime is getting away with brutality even though
We all have eyes the ability to see right from wrong
With that most instructive of instincts the one that tells
Us blood red’s the color of the bitterest precinct
Who has the code what is the cure when will it cease
We can’t endure without coming together now

When is enough don’t disavow hope when it needs succor most
